Lt. Bill Manning began his firefighting career in the United States Air Force, where his courage and dedication quickly set him apart. During his service, he earned multiple commendations and honors including promotion to Senior Airman Below The Zone and the Air Force Commendation Medal with Valor for his heroic actions during the June 25, 1996 terrorist attack on Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia. Despite being off duty, Bill selflessly risked his life to rescue others, personally saving numerous lives and providing aid to injured personnel on that day. His instinct to protect others above himself defined both his service and his character.
Following his military career, Bill continued his lifelong commitment to service as a proud member of the Kissimmee Fire Department, where he served honorably for more than 11 years. Known throughout Florida and across the nation as a “firefighter’s firefighter,” Lt. Manning embodied the true spirit of the fire service courage, brotherhood, and unwavering professionalism.
His passion for training and excellence shone through in his role as a lead instructor at the Central Florida Fire Academy, where he mentored countless firefighters and inspired future generations to serve with integrity, humility, and heart.
Today, the Lt. Bill Manning Foundation continues his legacy dedicated to advancing firefighter training, education, and safety initiatives that reflect the values Bill lived every day: Pride, Ownership, and Service to Others.
